The Hypto Krypto by Haydenshapes is the board people mean when they say “one-board quiver.” A fuller nose with volume carried under your chest gets you into waves early, a flat, fast rocker keeps you moving through soft sections, and a pulled-in rounded pin tail holds when the surf turns on. This one is built in FutureFlex - a stringerless EPS core with a parabolic carbon fiber frame - for a light, lively, springy feel underfoot. At 5'8 and 31L, this is the performance end of the range - ride it an inch or two shorter than your everyday shortboard.

WHY WE PICKED THIS BOARD

We've had many Hypto Kryptos over the years, and they've always been a very reliable board - whether you're traveling or surfing at home. It's one of the few shapes that honestly works for almost everyone: it paddles like a bigger board, gets up to speed without much effort, and still has the tail to hold a real turn when the waves show up. If you want one board that covers the mushy mornings and the good days, here or on the road, this is an easy call.

ABOUT THE SHAPER

Hayden Cox started Haydenshapes in Sydney in 1996, shaping his first boards as a teenager. He went on to develop and patent FutureFlex, the parabolic carbon fiber frame construction used in this board, and the Hypto Krypto was named Surfboard of the Year two years running (2014 and 2015). Haydenshapes also has a US base just up the coast in Oceanside.
