The East Fish is Rob Lan's East Coast-style triplane fish, and it's a go-to whether the waves are small or good. Cruise it, go fast, draw out big turns, or get in early and get barreled. A low entry and exit rocker, a fairly traditional fish outline and a slight sidecut make it an easy paddler with a little more snap than a classic fish, on a stable, drivey platform that gets the most out of whatever conditions you've got. This one is set up as a quad.

We picked the East Fish because it does a little of everything a fish should, and a little more. It paddles easy, it flies down the line as a quad, and it has enough bite to draw a real turn. If you're after something fishy, this is the one.

ABOUT THE SHAPER

Rob Lan grew up skating in Brooklyn, New York, and built his first surfboard from a kit before he really knew how to surf. Eight years ago he moved to the North Shore of Oʻahu, where he shapes and glasses his own boards and works at Murray Glassing in the historic Old Waialua Sugar Mill, doing sanding and color work for some of surfing's most respected shapers. His designs are inspired by the wide variety of waves around the island. In 2025 he was a finalist in Vissla's Just Add Color competition and took 2nd Place Best in Show at the Boardroom Show.
